Fiona McGee Joins The Salmon

The Salmon is honoured—yes, with a “u”—to welcome Australian director Fiona McGee to our growing roster.

Known for her visually driven and nuanced comedy, Fiona has a knack for capturing the raw, awkward essence of everyday life. She has directed creative, quirky campaigns for global giants like McDonald’s and Volkswagen, and delivered comically insightful work for brands such as TurboTax, CarGurus, and Colorsteel. Her unique blend of visual storytelling and sharp humour (again, with a “u”) makes her work both relatable and entertaining.

“We love Fiona’s deft touch in poking the soft underbelly of the human experience, which is a fancy way of saying she’s great at making things feel real and really awkward,” said Adam, of comedy directorial duo Adam & Dave, who co-founded The Salmon in 2022.

“Fiona has a remarkable ability to make us laugh at the weird ways we all feel deep down inside but are too afraid to admit to others,” added Dave. “Her comedy is like a therapy session without the uncomfortable silences where you think your therapist is secretly judging you. Her work is therapeutic, but at a much more competitive rate.”

Before entering the world of advertising, Fiona honed her craft at Sydney’s College of Fine Arts, creating shorts and documentaries that continue to influence her striking visual style. A graduate of Australia’s acclaimed AWARD School, she transitioned from agency work to directing, stripping down concepts to their core truth and building her approach from there. Her storytelling—whether comedic or dramatic, narrative or documentary—reflects a deep understanding of the human condition.
